If there’s one thing that Indianapolis Colts team president Bill Polian and New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis have in common, it’s the ability — far above the norm — to find NFL-level talent late in the draft and among undrafted free agents. Polian was able to do this once again in the 2009 preseason, and it has reshaped his team’s secondary.

• LaDainian Tomlinson (notes) told XX Sports Radio in San Diego that he “wasn’t happy” with his role with the Chargers this past season. The never ending saga of Tom Cable as coach of the Raiders continues, as there was talk of a decision being made early in the week on his status, but here it is Wednesday and nothing has happened. One thing seems to be happening in Raider land though, and that is Al Davis is talking to other coaches. ESPN AFC West blogger Bill Williamson is reporting today that the Raiders have asked for and gotten permission to speak to Ravens QB coach Hue Jackson.

It seems not a day goes by that Buffalonians are reading about another potential coaching candidate who has rejected either the offer to become head coach of the Bills, or the time and effort it would take to even interview for the still vacant job, which, by the way, is one of only 32 NFL jobs and the ONLY one open.

For those of you who watched the Arizona-New Orleans game earlier today, then you probably learned by watching that crime-in-progress that getting two weeks of rest does your team a world of good. The question, despite that piece of truth, that was needed to be asked when the Baltimore Ravens came to Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday to take on the Indianapolis Colts was this: Would the Ravens exploit the Colts’ lack of a running attack, leaving the fate of the Colts on the arm of Peyton Manning?
